Puppetrix Frequently Asked Questions

What areas of Brisbane does Puppetrix service?

Puppetrix is based in Brisbane and performs throughout Brisbane and surrounding areas of South East Queensland. This includes performances for birthday parties, schools, childcare centres, libraries, festivals, markets and community events. If you're outside Brisbane, you're welcome to get in touch and check whether Carl can travel to your location.

What ages are Puppetrix shows suitable for?

Puppetrix offers different shows and entertainment options for different age groups. The main children's shows are particularly suited to children from around 3 to 10 years, although the combination of puppets, magic, comedy and audience participation means older children and adults can enjoy being part of the fun too. For childcare, school and other organised events, the performance can be selected to suit the age and audience.

How long does a Puppetrix show run?

The length depends on the type of event and show. Many Puppetrix performances are around 45 minutes, while some school, festival, library and community event programs may use different formats. When you enquire, Carl can recommend a suitable performance length for your audience and event.

Can Puppetrix perform outdoors?

Yes. Puppetrix can perform outdoors where the location provides a suitable performance area and weather conditions are appropriate. A shaded or covered area is preferred for children's comfort and to protect the puppets and equipment from direct sun, wind and rain. If the weather becomes unsuitable, an alternative indoor space is recommended where possible.

How much space is needed for a Puppetrix show?

Puppetrix shows don't require a large stage. A suitable area for the children to sit or stand and a small performance space for Carl is generally enough. The amount of space needed depends on the particular show, audience size and venue, so Carl can discuss the setup with you when you book.

Does Puppetrix provide sound equipment?

Yes. Puppetrix can provide the sound equipment required for performances, depending on the size and nature of the event. For larger events, festivals and venues that already have a professional PA system, Carl can also work with the venue's equipment where appropriate.

Is Puppetrix insured?

Yes. Puppetrix is fully insured for professional entertainment work. This provides peace of mind for schools, childcare services, libraries, community organisations, event organisers and other venues when booking a professional children's entertainer.

Does Carl have a Blue Card?

Yes. Carl holds a current Queensland Blue Card. This is particularly relevant when Puppetrix is performing in schools, childcare centres, vacation care programs, OSHC services and other environments involving children.

Can Puppetrix perform at childcare centres?

Yes. Puppetrix provides interactive puppet and magic entertainment for childcare centres, kindergartens and early learning services. Shows can be selected to suit younger children, with puppetry, magic, music, storytelling, humour and plenty of opportunities for participation.

Carl's experience in education and early childhood education and care also informs the way these performances are presented, helping ensure they are engaging and appropriate for young children.

Can Puppetrix perform school incursions?

Yes. Puppetrix provides school incursions for primary schools, including interactive magic and puppet shows, puppet talks and literacy-related activities. Carl's background in teaching and education allows performances to incorporate educational themes while remaining entertaining and highly interactive.

Programs can be selected according to the age of the students, the type of event and the school's particular interests or learning focus.

Does Puppetrix offer library shows?

Yes. Puppetrix provides interactive puppet and magic shows for libraries, library holiday programs and family literacy events. Performances can incorporate puppetry, storytelling, nursery rhymes, magic and audience participation to encourage children's enjoyment of stories, language and shared experiences.

Can Puppetrix provide roaming entertainment?

Yes. Puppetrix offers roving and roaming puppet entertainment for festivals, markets, shopping centres, community events, family days and other large events. Instead of performing from a stage, Carl takes colourful puppet characters into the audience, creating spontaneous interactions with children and families as they move around the event.

Roaming puppets can also work particularly well between scheduled stage performances.

Can the show be tailored to an event theme?

In many cases, yes. Puppetrix has a range of themed shows and entertainment options, and the most suitable performance can be selected according to the event, audience and occasion. Some events may also allow for particular themes, characters or activities to be incorporated.

If you have a specific theme in mind, mention it when you enquire and Carl can let you know what options are available.

Can Puppetrix perform at birthday parties at home?

Yes. Puppetrix regularly performs at children's birthday parties in homes and other private venues. The shows are designed to work in a range of spaces, including living rooms, backyards, garages and community halls, provided there is a suitable area for the performance and audience.

Carl brings the equipment needed for the performance, so you don't need to organise a stage or complicated setup.

What makes Puppetrix different from other children's entertainers?

Puppetrix combines professional puppetry, magic, comedy and audience participation with Carl's extensive experience in education and children's services. With almost 40 years of professional performance experience, Carl knows how to engage children of different ages while keeping the performance relaxed, interactive and fun for the whole audience.

What types of events does Puppetrix perform at?

Puppetrix provides children's entertainment for a wide range of events, including birthday parties, schools, childcare centres, kindergartens, OSHC and vacation care programs, libraries, fetes, festivals, markets, community events, shopping centres and family days.

Entertainment can include magic and puppet shows, Punch & Judy, puppet talks, workshops and roaming puppet characters, depending on the event.

Does Puppetrix cater for different age groups?

Yes. Puppetrix has different entertainment options for different audiences, from younger children in childcare settings through to primary school-aged children and mixed-age family audiences. When you enquire, Carl can recommend the most suitable show or format based on the ages of the children and the type of event.
